Hi. Terribly sorry to bother … thought perhaps you might be inclined to point me in the right direction in fixing MyBook.
After applying some hacks from Martin Hinner’s site, I lost the ability to access the linux part of the unit (SSH, LightPPD and the WD Admin software that should come up. I was ok with until one of the drives failed. I now need to access the admin software in order to rebuild the RAID, but I have no idea how to proceed. Any help would be most appreciated.
It is hard to say exactly how this has happened. It is possible that it could have reset itself to the default IP address, you might want to check this first. Otherwise, the only other way I can think to fix this is to manually restore the MyBook using the backup images found here, http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/backup-images-of-mybook. I haven’t tried this so I can’t say if it would work or not. You would need to first extract what you have stored on the good drive by removing it from the enclosure and plugging it into your PC with a live linux CD. It seems that there are only images for the 500GB and the 2TB MyBook, so hopefully yours is one of thouse.
Be careful though, you could possibly break it even further. Note that I haven’t tried the procedure so I can’t say if it works or not. It might help also to ask on the forums at http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/.
